Raingutter Regatta this Saturday

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

I hope everyone has started on their boats!  Paint should be drying nicely.  I hope you used a waterproof paint otherwise the lanes will get a little coloured and your scout may end up with the paint on their hands!

One quick tip, though.  Put a small amount of glue on the top and bottom of the sail to hold it in place to make it easier to blow against.  Otherwise the sail can spin around and it can stop the boat from moving as fast as it could.

Please remember check-in is from 9:30 until 9:55 so please get there before 9:55 if you want to enter.  Good luck everyone, we hope to see you on Saturday.

Sleeping with the Sharks Update

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

Message from the Cubmaster, edited slightly to remove phone numbers / names for online

Hey everyone,

I finally have the answers to many of your questions.

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom will allow siblings to participate at our event. Due to the fact that it is a private event any child 6 and older can participate. The child must turn 6 years old before April 1st. Also any non registered scout (meaning siblings) will not be covered under BSA insurance and will need to sign the liability waver like everyone else for Six Flags. I just want everyone to understand that Pack 494 and BSA will not be liable if any unforeseen event occurs.

The cost is $100.00 per person. A minimum of 30 people is required to attend and the maximum is 80 for a private event. Any or all parents, grandparents may attend as well. There is no discount for those people who do not attend Sharks in the Dark, but would like to attend the park on Saturday. Tickets right know are very inexpensive and we will also be going on their off season so that helps as well.

If your scout earned it during popcorn, his spot is not confirmed until an adult is paid for. Your scout needed to sell $900 to qualify. If you are unsure if your child qualified please contact [Name removed] your den leader. Scouts who earned the trip have until the Sunday before the March Pack meeting to pay and have priority. After that time is  a first come first paid event. The final day to pay for the event will be at the March Pack meeting. Den Leaders please forward this info on to your parents.

After you have paid you will be given a packet of paper to fill out for every attendee and it needs to be turned in before April 1st. If you do not have your paper work turned in by April 1st you will not be able to attend – NO EXCEPTIONS! THERE ARE NO REFUNDS!!

If you have any questions please call me on my cell ([number removed]) and leave a message if I do not answer If you have any questions you can use the contact form on this website. [Name removed] The Cubmaster’s Wife will not have any answers for you and I will not return any calls or any questions asked through her.

Thank you,

Cubmaster Pack 494, Fernley

Pinewood Derby this weekend!

Monday, January 12th, 2009

Don’t forget if you have signed up for the Pinewood Derby it is this weekend.

Friday 7pm at Cottonwood Elementary School we have test and tune, where you can try out your car on the actual track!

Saturday, at CES again, is a full day with 9am to 9:45 registration being open.  If you are not in line at 9:45 you will not get to race in the Pinewood Derby.  The Pinewood Derby (that is the Cub Scout races) will start shortly afterwards.

Good Luck to everyone!
