    2. LENGTH: Car cannot be more than 7 inches long.
    3. HEIGHT: Car cannot be more than 4 1/2 inches high. It must clear the ground by at least 3/8 inch.
    4. WEIGHT: Finished car must weigh NO MORE THAN five (5) ounces. The weight shown on the Official Race Scale is final. All car parts and materials must be firmly attached. To increase the car’s weight, add wood or metal weights only. Magnetic weights are not recommended because of the potential of ferrous metal being used as part of the track construction. Don’t use Mercury to add weight, it is not safe.
    1. CONSTRUCTION: The car shall be constructed from an official BSA Pinewood Derby kit. Construction of ALL entries MUST have begun AFTER last year’s races.
    2. LUBRICATION: Use dry powdered graphite or powdered teflon “white lube” ONLY. You may not use any other lubricant, especially oils and silicone sprays. Lubrication may be applied before the Pack run-off in the presence of race officials. Cars cannot be lubricated between heats. The use of hub caps or other lubricant reservoirs is prohibited.
    1. WHEEL PLACEMENT: The car body must be at least 1-3/4 inches wide at the axles. You may not change the wheelbase (distance between front and rear axles). Axles must measure 4-3/8” to 4-1/2”. The four wheels, two on each side of the car, must be placed such that the car will straddle the lane guide.
    2. WHEELS AND AXLES: Use only Official Scout Grand Prix wheels and axles. You can polish the axles. The points on the axles must still be intact. You may lightly sand the wheels to remove the molding seam on the tread. No other wheel changes are allowed. You may not use bearings, washers or bushings. Hub caps or other lubricant reservoir devices are not permitted.
    1. APPEARANCE: No loose materials are permitted. All attachments must be secured to the car or removed. Cars with the front indented will be disqualified. No part of the car may extend beyond the starting gate prior to the start of the race.
    2. DETAILS: Details such as Steering Wheel, Driver, Decals, Painting, and Interior Details are okay. The finished car with details must meet the maximum length, width and weight rules. Cars with wet paint will not be accepted.
  1. INSPECTION: Each car must pass inspection by the Official Pinewood Derby Chairman. The Chairman will disqualify any car not meeting these rules. Once the car passes final inspection, it will be “impounded” for the duration of the race.
  2. ACCIDENTS: If a car jumps off the track or interferes with another car the heat is run again. If it happens again, the car loses the heat. If minor “maintenance” is required after a race, it must be performed at the impound area under the supervision of a member of the Pit Crew Team, and the car must be re-weighed and inspected prior to racing again by the Chairman.
  3. REPAIRS: If a car breaks down, the scout is allowed five (5) minutes or until the next heat the car is scheduled to race in, which ever is greater, to fix the car. Then the Official Starters will run the heat again. If the car cannot be fixed in five minutes or prior to the next scheduled heat for that car, it loses the heat.
  4. GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP AND BEHAVIOR IS EXPECTED. Race Officials may ask anyone not following this rule to leave.
  5. Only Race Officials are permitted inside the track area. This is a safety requirement not only for the Cub Scout, but also for the track, equipment and pinewood derby cars.
  6. Race Official decisions are final. Any objections need to be made immediately to the Track Master.
  7. Unlimited Division: The only rules are for hight, width, & length. Car MUST be built from an official BSA Pinewood Derby Kit.
